Participation Guidelines for /Altered District

At /Altered District, we value creativity, collaboration, and the sharing of unique perspectives.

We invite creatives from all backgrounds to showcase their work and share their stories. To maintain a high standard of content and ensure a meaningful experience for all participants, please adhere to the following guidelines below.

Submission

Editorial/Images

  1. A focused body of work, typically 6–9 editorial images

  2. Images should be selected for coherence, intent, and visual reasoning, rather than volume

  3. Work may include original visual languages, reinterpretations, or explorations across different AI systems

  4. Emphasis is placed on the decisions and constraints shaping the work, not on tools or novelty

  5. Images are presented alongside brief editorial context to clarify intent and authorship

Film

  1. Film is treated as an editorial format, not promotional or commercial material

  2. Contributions may include short-form fashion films, conceptual moving-image studies, or narrative fragments

  3. Films are typically under a few minutes in length, favoring clarity and restraint over scale

  4. Film should extend or deepen the visual language explored in the images, rather than replace it

  5. Each film is presented with an editorial context to engage narrative, intent, process, and creative decisions

Eligibility & Selection

  1. Editorial Story or Visual Exploration:
Contributors are invited to share a brief description of the ideas or perspectives informing their work. This context helps situate the images or film within a broader creative intent—similar in spirit to an artist statement—offering insight into the thinking and vision guiding the exploration.

The emphasis is on why the work took shape as it did, rather than on narrative completeness or promotion.

  2. Process & Approach:
Contributors are encouraged to reflect on their process, including the origins of their perspective and the decisions that shaped the work along the way. This may include discussion of creative strategies, constraints, or ways of working with AI as a medium.

When relevant, contributors may also choose to share examples of prompts or approaches that were particularly influential—not as instructions to replicate, but as insight into how intent was translated into form.

  3. Reflections & Learnings:
Altered District values reflection as part of creative authorship. Contributors are invited to share key learnings or observations that emerged through the process—whether technical, conceptual, or creative.

These reflections might touch on moments of discovery, limitations encountered, or shifts in perspective when working with AI as part of the creative process.

Featured Contributors

  1. Selected works will be featured in /Altered District's digital editions. Featured contributors will receive recognition for their work and be part of a community that values innovation and artistic expression.

  2. Contributors will have the opportunity to engage with our audience through interviews, behind-the-scenes insights, and collaborative projects.

  3. Receive branded swag (since we’re still starting).
